Parks & Recreation

October 2023

In 2020, we closed on the property known as “the old North Kingsville School property”. It is my hope to build a park that all can enjoy. This park would have open space, a walking path, a playground that would also have some handicap accessible play equipment, basketball courts, pickle ball courts, splash pad, picnic tables and an electric car charging station with proceeds from that be spent on paying for electric bills. I submitted and the State approved $150,000 from state capital money to be spent on a playground. A small amount could be spent to prepare the land for that playground but most of the funds would need to be spent on the playground. With the help of some volunteers I also held two golf outing in two years to help pay for the development of that park. We raised just over $8,600. The park would need to be divided into phases with Phase One being the playground. It has been discussed among council and myself that once Sunset Park property was sold a portion of that money would be spent on developing the new park. Where do things stand now you may ask? Since this is a large job it must be bided out. John Smolen from Smolen Engineering prepares our biding packages. I have asked Mr. Smolen for an estimate for that service. He submitted an estimate, which I have given to the finance committee for approval in the first part of September. Once committee approves that John Smolen will prepare a bid package that we will be able to use to advertise for the job. Once a company is hired to build the playground, work can begin. The state is asking that all work in the playground be completed by the end of June 2024. It is my hope that as time goes by each phase will be complete and the village will have a beautiful park to enjoy.

If you would like to see the sight plan for the park please contact me at (440) 335-1473 and I would be happy to show it to you or email you a copy.

Update:

Council has approved  for Smolen Engineering to prepare the bidding package for the playground.

Sincerely,

Mayor Mindy Bisbee
